HSE Workplace Fatality Figures for 2021-22

05/08/2022

On the 6th July, the Health and Safety Executive published its yearly workplace fatality figures for Great Britain. The figures show a slight reduction from last year - but even one death is one too many.

The most common cause is falling from height resulting in 29 deaths. Being struck by a moving vehicle is a close second, causing 23 fatalities. The construction industry has the highest number of fatal incidents at work.

It’s sobering to think that every number is a person who most likely has a wife or husband, children, parents, brother or sister, friends, work colleagues, neighbours, the list is long. The shock and stress of a sudden death is devastating for loved ones and the knock-on effect can last for years or more.

It’s vital that workplace safety is taken seriously to ensure everyone goes home safe every day. Our MyZone Proximity Warning System helps employers protect their workforce from moving vehicles in busy industrial environments. We work with different companies across many industries and our MyZone Worker Alert System is mandated by Colas Rail UK and is a Network Rail approved product.

We want to see the number of fatalities reduced to zero, which means investing in health and safety training, ensuring all workers are equipped with suitable PPE and fostering a safety culture that every employee understands and buys into.
