From now until March 2023 the HSE will carry out more than 500 unannounced site inspections throughout the whole of Great Britain after an “unacceptable number of fatal injuries” in the waste and recycling sector.
The HSE will be focussing on the issues of machine guarding and moving vehicles, which account for the most accidents and fatal injuries in the industry. The waste and recycling sector has one of the highest rates of workplace injury and work-related ill-health across all industries, putting it at the top of the HSE’s agenda.
