According to thelandsite.co.uk, the construction industry recorded the highest number of deaths at work, reporting 30 fatalities during 2022.
The total cost of injuries in 2019/20 is estimated at £1.4bn. This accounts for 7% of the total £18.7bn spent on all work-related ill health and injury costs across the UK. The majority of these costs fell upon the injured/ill individuals themselves.
Falling from height is still the main cause of fatal and non-fatal incidents in the construction sector, accounting for half of all deaths on-site, followed by being struck by a moving vehicle. By law workers must be supplied with the correct PPE, receive ongoing safety training and vehicles and pedestrians must be segregated.
